Training seminar for lecturers, MSC and Ph.D. Students at UDs
Capacity building Seminar in the University of Dschang
Dschang,UDs/SIC-6/12/21. A two-day training seminar on Socio economic data collection analysis on Forestry took place in the University of Dschang from Monday the 6th to the 8th of December 2021 at the Laboratory of Environmental Geomatics in the Department of Forestry. This seminar rallied both students and lecturers of this department with the aim of capacity building under the watchful eyes of Professor Tchamba , Head of Department. Over 50 Ph.D. and Masters Students were the main participants present with the goal of acquiring skills in the scientific collection of data, technics in analyzing and treatment of information collected. Addressed at the seminar was the relations between social and economic factors within the Forest sector, hence the need for data collection.
The value of combining disciplinary perspectives, social and ecological systems, was highlighted. The coordinator and guest speaker of the seminar ,Professor Verina Ingram with over 20years of experience did a profound exposition in a bid to enable the various participants to acquire knowledge that will guarantee sustainable development within the Forest sector. Amongst the several topics, she exposed included; ‘ what was socio-economics? why collect socio-economic data, how and what are combining disciplinary perspectives, social, ecological systems, cultural values and policy just to name a few. A practical session is programed to be part of the seminar where in trainees will participate and an opportunity given to them to collect data on the influence of Chinese bamboo on improvement livelihood of Cameroonians come January 2022.
The seminar will benefit the students as it aims at capacity building and it gives the University of Dschang recognition at the International scene. The various participants expressed satisfaction to have taken part in the seminar. To Ndam Alma a masters two student in the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, she is delighted as it will enable her to know what data to collect, the technics to analyze and how to treat the data collected. A family picture was then taken on this first day with the hope that the next days of the seminar will be more beneficial. L.D
