494 University lecturers exalted
Dschang-UDs-SIC-21/01/17: Following the ministerial decisions number 17/00051, 17/00052 and 17/00054/MINESUP/SP-CCIU of 19th December 2017, approving the change in academic grades of lecturers who postulated in front of a Jury in the May 25 – 27 2016 and the November 08 – 11 2016 sessions of the consultative Committee of University Institutions, with the French acronym CCIU, myriad of lecturers pertaining to Cameroonian Universities changed their grades from an inferior grade to become Senior Lecturers (Chargé de Cours), Associate Professors (Maître de Conferences) and Professors (including Professor Emeritus).
Situation analysis of the overall results:
In the May 25 – 27 2016 session, a total of 80 Candidates changed their grades, made up of the following:
- Senior Lecturers (Charge de Cours) = 40 successful candidates,
- Associate Professors (Maître de Conferences) = 29 successful candidates
- Professors = 11 candidates.
It gave the following result per University:
As for the November 08 – 11 2016 session, a total number of 414 lecturers changed grades, spanned as follows:
- Senior Lecturers (Chargé de Cours) = 243 successful candidates,
- Associate Professors (Maître de Conferences) = 126 successful candidates
- Professors = 45 candidates.

What is peculiar?
This year’s special package is the fact that the former Vice Chancellor of UDs and former Minister of Higher Education, Pr TCHUENTE Maurice, was elevated to the post of Professor Emeritus (University of Yaounde I). Two other Professors emeritus were equally successful, in the person of Pr Mbofung Carl Moses Funtong (University of Ngaoundere) and Pr. Njopwouo Daniel (University of Yaounde I) Respectively.
In the same vein, two public figures also changed grades in the person of Pr. OWONA NGUINI Mathias Eric (University of Yaounde II) who was promoted to an associate professor (MC) in political science and Dr Claude ABE (University of Douala), who was recruited in the Sociology/Anthropology Unit.
UDs scored a 100% with its candidates who went in for professorship. As shall be a cause for consent for the next article./MRZ
