UDs launches Cultural Week in grand style
Dschang.UDs/SIC-05/03/18. The ambiance of the 33rd Edition of the International women’s day was at its peak as the teaching and non-teaching female staff of the University of Dschang kick started the activities to mark the cultural week with a general fitness walk and an ecumenical mass at the Dschang ceremonial ground in the early hours of today. During the official launching ceremony at the University auditorium which started at 3.30 pm, Divisional and university dignitaries alongside members of the university community graced the highly entertaining official launching ceremony. During the event, the coordinator of the activities of the International Women’s day of UDs, Prof Sylvie Wansi, DAAF/UDs thanked the women for turning out massively and assured the Vice chancellor of their continues support of his ideology of collective dynamism. The head of the Institution, Prof Roger Tsafack Nanfosso in his launching speech lauded the position of women in the society and their role in transformation “the future of men is in women”. He underscored the value of women in the university and exalted the intellectual body of the female teaching staff. Prof Nanfosso appreciated the non-teaching female staff who have continued to ascend the educational ladder in a bid to improve on their capacities. The Vice chancellor assured the women that the University was void of discrimination of women but added that if there exist any case of such; he would look into. He expressed satisfaction with the three female components of the university (teaching, non-teaching and female student population). He emphasized that gender is strongly considered in the University and stated that women occupy more than 50% of those admitted into the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Vc highlighted the fact that the best entrance scores in the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences in both options of medicine and pharmacy were recorded by girls. He underlined the values of women and concluded stating that, without them we can’t work well,….. The Vc enjoined women to remain virtues because these characteristics will help the University grow. The first phase of the ceremony ended with the symbolic handing over of the women’s day fabric to the Presidents of the teaching and non-teaching staff and a family picture.
