22nd edition of the University Games

Governor calls on all to act in synergy

Dschang,UDs/SIC-25/02/19. The  preparatory activities  for the forth-coming university games slated from the 4^th to 11^th May 2019 in the University of Dschang was launched by the Governor of the West Region, H.E Awah  Fonka Augustine. The launching ceremony which took place on the 25^th of February at the Amphi 208 of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences had in attendance key Regional and University dignitaries as well as representatives from MINESUP and FENASU. During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Roger Tsafack Nanfosso during his welcome word lauded the presence of the Governor which was aimed at accompanying the University in the preparations for the 22^nd edition of the University games. He reiterated that it will be the first University  to host the games for the 4^th time and stated that the games was organized by the University of Dschang for the whole of the West region since it will be decentralized in 3 sites ( Dschang, Bandjoun and Foumban). He thanked the governor for bringing all the stakeholders who will help in the organization of the games in Bandjoun and Foumban. He felicitated the personal engagement of the Governor for the execution of the noble ambition of hosting the games which brings together 4000 athletes, 20,000 spectators, 10 sporting disciplines (6 Olympic, 4 Paralympics) among other economic and social benefits. After the Reading of the Regional Order putting in place a local Organizing Committee by the Secretary General of the West Regional Governor’s Office, the Governor presented his launching speech. He highlighted that the slated games will take place under the reigning socio-political crisis plaguing the country and this necessitated proper security measures to ensure a hitch free sporting event.  The Governor called on all stake holders to contribute with the spirit of patriotism, commitment, responsibility and steadfastness to guarantee a superb event. He lauded the Minister of Higher Education while stating that an internal plan should be put in place in order to ensure that all the athletes represent the various Regions and Institution with dignity as such mercenary among other vices should be shunned. He invited all sporting coaches to fine-tune their preparation.  “We don’t host the games to loose” he stated. The Governor called on the fans club to boast the morals of their athletes so as to ensure victory. At the general level; he called on all to be security conscious and highlighted need for a proper implemented security plan at the host sites and the Region as a whole. The Regional head called on those handling feeding and lodging to exhibit prove of professionalism since these two aspect constitutes a barometer for  the appreciation of  the level of preparedness .While insisting that other aspects should not be neglected he called on all to act in synergy to ensure a successful 22^nd  edition of the games. The launching ended with a cocktail and family picture to immortalize the event/.
