UDs takes part in the competition

Dschang, UDs/SIC/25/07/17.The University of Dschang is proud to be among the 40 teams from 26 countries that will take part in the Nuremberg Moot Court for 2017, a competition organized by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy and the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg Moot Court, taking place from  the 26th – 29th  July 2017.

  This academy dedicated to the promotion of international criminal justice and human rights, promotes sustainable peace through justice, and the rule of law by supporting worldwide enforcement of international criminal law, furthering knowledge, and building capacities at the national level to investigate and prosecute these crimes. Located in Nuremberg, the birthplace of modern international criminal law, this academy supports the fight against impunity for universally recognized international core crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression. The Nuremberg Moot Court invites participants from across the globe to argue a fictitious international criminal law case before the « International Criminal Court ». Dissecting both complex procedural and substantive issues of international criminal law, students are given the opportunity to apply and develop their skills and moot at the momentous Courtroom 600. The unique location of Nuremberg allows students to practice international criminal law at its very birthplace, offering a historical educational experience. The organizers coordinate with highly esteemed professionals in the field, such as judges, academics and other practitioners to sit on the moot court panels. The competition consists of both written and oral phases, with each team firstly being required to submit a separate Prosecution and Defense memoranda. The oral phase takes place over a three-day period, with each team participating in two preliminary rounds on 27th – 28th  July 2017, followed by the eighth finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final on 29th  July 2017. 

The competition which takes place every year, has for this year the delegation from Dschang which comprises of; Prof KEUBOU, the Coordination of the Professional Masters programme in Human Rights, International Penal Law and International Humanitarian Law in the University of Dschang. The team includes Dr FOLEFACK Ernest, supervisor of the three students (Samuel Ashu Besong, Christelle DOUNTIO TENANG and NUBITGHA Raphael Banti. This team has worked tirelessly for the past months and kick off today the 25th of July 2017 for Nuremburg in Germany to compete in the ancient mythical tribunal of Nuremburg where Nazi war criminals were judged at the end of the 2nd world war. It is worth noting that the University of Dschang represents Cameroon and is among the 5 African participating universities at the competition. This competition is obviously a platform to prove the University’s academic prowess and mastery of international law and its representatives are poised and confident at proving the assertion of belonging to a citadel of knowledge in Africa.
