IMF Conference
UDs students called upon to be vectors of development
Dschang-SIC/UDs-11/12/17. The University of Dschang hosted a second conference since 2014 on the evaluation report of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Kadima Kalonji, IMF resident representative to Cameroon in an interview with media officials at the University auditorium on the 11th of December 2017 called upon students to be vectors of development. In response of the IMF representative on the role of youths to curb budget deficit which was a current situation of African states, he suggested that “… youths should stay engaged on key issues at stake because higher deficit means higher public debts and this will be reimbursed by the future generation which are the youths of today…” In a bid to redress the issue of budget deficit of countries in the CEMAC Zone, Mr Kadima Kalonji highlighted the need to shun over dependency on natural resources especially oil products, as prices are falling significantly and the budget deficit is increasing over the years. “…thus it is important to reduce spending , consolidate public expenditure and protect spending notably in the field of health and education because those are priority sectors. It is also paramount to reduce less important spending and increase non oil revenue to ensure that this adjustment is sustainable in time. It is worth noting that the IMF encourages its 188 member states to be open on possible economic policies and changes to ensure accountability and transparency. The interactive session with the students of the University of Dschang gave the representative the views of most Cameroonian youths and their steadfastness in pursuing an economic revolution in the country.
